Albert Getzloff Memorial Next Up For CWRA Stars To Legends Tour At Golden Sands Speedway

PLOVER, WI – The Albert Getzloff Memorial event is the next stock car racing action for the CWRA Stars to Legends Tour, as presented by Smiley’s Old Time Diner, and it will occur at the Golden Sands Speedway, Plover, WI., this Friday night, June 14th.

Getzloff was a main stay as the tire man for CWRA competitors for many years when the circuit was holding race events up to 5 times a week. He passed away three years ago, but this event keeps his name in the memory banks of all those that had a chance to meet him. A “Character” to say the least, there always seems to be a story popping up about Albert at a race somewhere, even today. According to CWRA president, Dale P. Danielski, Albert was one of a kind. ” He was one of those guys that would make you so mad at him for what he said, but at the same time your were splitting a gut laughing!”

The event Friday at the super fast, 1/3 mile paved Golden Sands track will be one of the biggest of the year, offering over $7,000 in purse pay-off for the CWRA Late Model racers. With title sponsor, Mark Smiley’s, of Smiley’s Old Time Diner contribution, the purse could swell to over $8,000.

A field of over 30 CWRA Stars is expected to compete as drivers from three States converge on the Speedway this Friday. Current point leader, and 2018 CWRA Champion, Jeff Weinfurter, Wis. Rapids, WI., tops the list but he will be facing stiff competition from two time Tour winner in 2019, Mark Mackesy, Wausau, WI.. Up and coming driver, and currently 3rd in Tour points, Chad Butz, Green Bay Wis., will provide formidable competition as well. Harley Jankowski, Sparta, WI., and the top Rookie competitor this year will also be in the field looking for his first win. Others that have indicated they will be on hand include, 2017, CWRA Champion, Frank Nitzke, Berlin, WI., Darek Gress, Neillsville, WI., local favorite, Darren Jackson, Wis. Rapids, WI., Fox Valley driver and Norway, MI., Speedway Champion, Mike Reichenberger, Appleton, WI., along with a host of others.

In addition to the CWRA Touring Stars, several other divisions of racing will be on the night’s card with Qualifying set for 6:30 pm and racing at 7:45.

Golden Sands Speedway is located 6 miles West of Plover, or 7 miles East of Wis. Rapids, on Highway 54.
