CWRA Stars to Legends Tour Dick Trickle Classic coming to Tomah-Sparta speedway September 16th

TOMAH, WI – The next event for the CWRA Stars to Legends Tour as presented by Smiley’s Old Time Diner, is coming to the Tomah-Sparta Speedway, Tomah, WI., Sunday afternoon, September 16th as the Dick Trickle Classic will be held there as part of the track’s two day Fall Classic which will also offer a full race program Saturday night, September 15th. The Sunday CWRA event, sponsored by Rick Shone, of RMS Contracting Service of Lyndon Station, Wisconsin, featuring the Super Late Model type race car will be the first held at the 3/8 mile paved oval in over 20 years. The days racing will culminate in the running of two 30 lap Main events. Trickle in his short track racing days competed in these cars throughout the Midwest for many years, including winning on numerous occasions at the Tomah-Sparta Speedway before heading off to a career in NASCAR. The event is being held to commemorate Trickle’s accomplishments at this level of racing and race cars he actually competed in will be on display as part of the afternoon’s show.

All the CWRA Stars to Legends Tour top drivers will be on hand for the event and with a number of drivers that haven’t raced yet on the Tour indicating they will be on hand entrants for the event could swell to 25 or better. Tour point leader Jeff Weinfurter, Wis. Rapids, WI., heads up the list of drivers to compete. Weinfurter, with four wins thus far on the Tour, currently holds a 48 point lead over fellow Wis. Rapids driver, Darren Jackson, who is knocking on the door for his first win. Early season points leader, Mark Mackesy, Wausau, WI., who also has four wins, stands 3rd in points, 53 behind Weinfurter. Darek Gress, Neillsville, WI., a two time Tour winner, currently rides 4th in the standings with Rachel Kallas, Winneconne, WI., in 5th. This being the 2nd to last race for the Tour of the 2018 campaign the points championship chase could still realistically be won by as many as seven drivers.

Besides the racing action, the Dick Trickle Memorial Project group will be on hand trying to meet their goal for constructing the Memorial in Dick’s honor in his hometown of Rudolph, WI. Items to purchase and raffle will be onsite on race day, for fans to help the group reach the last $50,000 of their fund raising goal.

Besides the former Trickle raced cars on hand, memorabilia will be on display for those fans wanting to familiarize themselves with the outstanding racing career of Dick Trickle.

The Sunday program will see gates to the Speedway opening at 10:00am with CWRA Super Late Models, 600 Modifieds, Modifieds, (UMA rules) and Bandoleros rotating practice sessions starting at 11:00am. Qualifying (CWRA doesn’t qualify, but draws for starting positions.) will begin at 12:30pm, with racing set to start at 2:00pm.

Saturday’s program will consist of what the track would normally run on a regular Friday race night, which includes, Tomah Modifieds, Sportsmen, Tomah Hobbystocks, 6 Shooters, Hornets and Dash race cars. Tomah Race divisions will not be racing for points. Racing on the night is set to start at 7:30pm.
