STEVENS POINT, WI – The Central Wisconsin Racing Association Stars to Legends Tour as presented by Smiley’s Old Time Diner has scheduled an eleven race slate at four different racetracks for the 2019 racing season. Events will be contested at Marshfield Motor Speedway, Marshfield, WI., Golden Sands Speedway, Plover, WI., Dells Raceway Park, Wis. Dells, WI., and the State Park Speedway, Wausau, WI. All are paved short track ovals that will feature super fast Late Model racing.
2018 CWRA Stars to Legends Tour Champion, and five time winner during the year, Jeff Weinfurter, Wis. Rapids, WI., has indicated he will be back to defend his title beginning with the opening event, Saturday afternoon, May 4th, at the 1/2 mile Marshfield Motor Speedway. The Marshfield track is the longest on the circuit and always features tight, side by side racing. Weinfurter will have his work cut out for him as 2017 Tour Champion Frank Nitzke, Berlin, WI., will race in all the events. Others that will be challenging include 4 time main event winner in 2018 Mark Mackesy, Wausau, WI., two time 2018 winner Darek Gress, and his Dad, Monty, both of Neillsville, WI., two time, 2018 main winner, and “Rookie of the Year” Jesse Bernhagen, Stevens Point, WI., 3rd in final 2018 Tour points, Darren Jackson, Wis. Rapids, WI., and the only female ever to win a main event in CWRA competition, Rachel Kallas, Winneconne, WI.
Following the Marshfield opener will be a Friday, May 17th event at Golden Sands Speedway, honoring popular Central Wisconsin racer, Marv Marzofka. The Tour then moves to Dells Raceway Park, for the Lyle Nabbefeldt Memorial race on Saturday, May 25th. Saturday, June 1st, sees a return to Marshfield Motor Speedway for the Salute to America event. Friday, June 14th it’s the Albert Getzloff Memorial race at Golden Sands Speedway. State Park Speedway, Wausau, WI., comes into the fold with the next three CWRA Stars to Legends Tour events on Thursday nights, June 27th, July 18th and August 8th. The July 18th race will feature a book signing event by Racing Father Grubba which honors long time favorite drivers Dick Trickle and Tom Reffner. The August 8th race there will honor Mike Miller who competed on the circuit from the 1970s through the 1980s. Tour racing returns to the Dells Raceway Park for the Marlin Walbeck Classic on Saturday, August 10th. Walbeck was the first true superstar of short track racing in the State and this event will serve to honor him and his accomplishments. Marshfield Motor Speedway will host the Tour once again on Saturday, August 17th, with the Season Championship ending the 2019 season on Friday, August 23rd at Golden Sands Speedway.
The CWRA Stars to Legends Tour Features a unique format in that it holds Group Qualifying similar to what is done in NASCAR to determine starting line ups for the 2-4, depending on car count, Feature events it holds at each event. The format has resulted in extremely competitive racing and has proven to be very popular with fans.
In addition to Title sponsor Smiley’s Old Time Diner, Hancock, WI., Sponsorship will appear on the Tour in the form of several cash bonus programs available to drivers. One in particular, the RMS Contracting, Lyndon Station, WI., “Race to the Front” bonus will offer the fastest timing driver at the event a $500 bonus if they choose to start in the rear of the Feat=ure and win the race. Each race that it isn’t collected, it will roll over to the next Feature until a driver pulls off a win from last and it is collected. If at the end of the year there is still money in the Kitty, a winner take all shootout race will take place with the winner of that race collecting all the loot.
Don’s Truck and Auto of Tomah, WI., has a “Checkers or Wreckers” program for this year. Each Feature winner will receive a $50.00 cash pay-out while the driver deemed to have had “One of those days” will also receive a $50.00 cash award.
Regular racer on the Tour, Putch Bentley through companies Central Timber, Eagle River, WI., and Bentley Trucking is offering $100 cash \to each events fast qualifier. An extra $50 will go to the Fast timer if they also win one of the Qualifying Features $25 cash will go to each of the Odd Even Feature winners if more than two Features are held for any given program. A $500 bonus will be given to the “Hotshoe” driver that sets the most fast times during the year as well.
In addition, AR Bodies, Coleman Racing Products, Howe Racing Enterprises, Tiry Racing Engines, Diamond Racing Wheels, and QA1 Shocks are on board this year with product certificate sponsorship programs.
