New CWRA Stars to Legends Tour Champion to be crowned September 28th at Marshfield Motor Speedway

MARSHFIELD, WI – The final event of the 2018 Central Wisconsin Racing Association, Stars to Legends Tour as presented by Smiley’s Old Time Diner, is set for, Friday night, September 28th, as part of the Annual Fall Shootout at Marshfield Motor Speedway, Marshfield, WI. The holding of the event will produce a new Tour Champion, as Frank Nitzke, Berlin, WI., the 2017 titlist has been eliminated from contention.

Jeff Weinfurter, Wis. Rapids, WI., the current point leader with 652 points, and 4 main event wins on the year, is definitely the driver to beat heading into the 8th, and final Tour race of the season. Three other drivers however still have a shot at the crown, as Weinfurter’s 48 point cushion is not insurmountable. Consistent Darren Jackson, Nekoosa WI., who is still looking for his first Tour win, rides 2nd in points with 604, and is followed by the two others still in contention for the prestigious title, Darek Gress, Neillsville, WI., 592 points, who has two Tour wins and Mark Mackesy, Wausau, WI., 591 points, and with four main event victories. Female racer, and main event winner in 2017, Rachel Kallas, Winneconne, WI., currently sits 5th in points, with 484 but is winless in 2018. She’d like nothing better than to end her season by picking up that win at Marshfield. Sixth place in the season standings is Nitzke, with 482 points and although his season has not gone as planned he will be looking to build momentum for next year by winning at Marshfield.

On tap for the evening program will be two 30 lap Feature races with all the Touring regulars expected to compete. Besides the top six point getters, Jesse Bernhagen, Stevens Point, WI., and hot off a win September 16th, in the Tour’s Dick Trickle Classic at Tomah-Sparta Speedway, Derrick Van Dreel, Wis. Rapids, WI., WI., Monte Gress, Neillsville, WI, and Brian Henry, Omro, WI., will be racing on the night. Bernhagen, with 478 points is also leading the 2018 “Rookie of the Year” standings over Henry who is hoping to grab a Tour main event win at Marshfield.

All indications are that a 20 car field or better will be on hand to do battle, especially since the last Tour event at Tomah-Sparta Speedway drew a high water mark of 22.

Besides the CWRA Stars to Legends Tour group, the CWSFCS Pure stocks, Bandits, and 2-man Cruisers will also be competing. The 2nd day of the Shootout event, Saturday, September 29th will also Feature the CWRA cars with Modified, TUNDRA Late Model Triple Crown (LLM), X-Treme 4, Bandit and 2-Man Cruiser Divisions competing. The Friday race program will see the pit gate opening at 4pm, fan gates at 5:30 pm, qualifying at 6:30pm and racing set for 7:30pm. Saturday pit gates will open at noon, fan gates at 1:00pm, with qualifying at 2:00pm and racing set for 3:00pm.
